Music Practice Room Sign Up (starts 9/8)

Student may sign up for Music Practice rooms in the Quad starting on Tuesday, September 8.  Students who are declared music majors may schedule up to 10 practice hours per week and all other students may schedule up to 5 practice hours per week.  Hours are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The room reservations are renewed each semester, so if you had a reserved time for Spring 2015, that time is no longer valid, and you must reschedule your practice room time.

Registration for practice room space will take place:

• Tuesday, September 8 -- 9am-1pm & 2-4pm
• Wednesday, September 9 -- 9am-1pm & 2-4pm
• Thursday, September 10 -- 9am-1pm & 2-4pm
• Friday, September 11 -- 9am-1pm & 2-4pm

Registration takes place in the office of Residential Life & Housing located in 110 Sulzberger Hall.  If all of the times you were interested in choosing are taken when you arrive, you can sign up for a "non-scheduled user card."  With this card, you can go to the front desk of Sulzberger Hall 15 minutes into any hour (between 7am to 2am) and if no one has shown up for their scheduled practice time, you may use the remaining 45 minutes of that hour.

Students who live in the quad are the only students permitted to sign guests in to use or share their practice hours.  All guest policies apply.  Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact Res Life at housing@barnard.edu or at (212) 854-5561.

Sign Up for Music Practice Rooms

Music practice rooms are available in the lower level of Sulzberger Hall.  These 3 rooms are outfitted with pianos and music stands to provide residential students with a dedicated space in which they can practice their instrument or rehearse for upcoming performances without disturbing their neighbors.

Declared music majors may reserve up to 10 practice hours per week in any one of the three rooms.  All other students may sign up for up to 5 practice hours per week in any one of the three rooms.  Practice room timeslots are chosen on a first come, first served basis.  They go fast, so the earlier you sign up the better your chances are for choosing desirable hours.

Filming in the Quad (11/26-12/4)

As mentioned in the recent note to the community, an independent feature film will be shooting on-campus from November 26th through December 4th.  Please note that filming in Quad residence halls and in the Arthur Ross Courtyard will take place in the following locations and on the following dates:

Tuesday, 11/27

• 5th floor Sulzberger Hall, 5th Fl Sulzberger Lounge, 3rd floor Brooks Hall, and 7th floor Sulzberger Hall

The College is making every effort to ensure as little interruption as possible to your daily routine, but there will likely be activity related to filming.  Barnard staff will be on hand, working directly with the filmmakers, and we anticipate that all will go smoothly. Volunteer your room for a movie shoot!

An independent feature film will be filmed at Barnard at the end of November. Filmmakers are seeking a residence hall room (single, double, or triple) in the Quad (floors 2-8) in which to film for one day (Tuesday, November 27th, from 8am-5pm).

Two new common areas in the Quad

Dear Quad residents,

I hope this email finds you well and staying dry. I am writing to let you know that there are now 2 great additional communal spaces for you to use!

Brooks TV Room:  This is located on the first floor of Brooks (to the left of the Front Desk). There are comfy couches and a flat screen TV and DVD player. Cable from Time Warner will soon be installed. This is a non-reservable space that will always be open for you to use. Feel free to use this as a place to relax, watch TV or to study.

Webber Lounge:  This is located on the first floor of Reid (walk past the Brooks TV Room - all the way at the end of the hall and turn the corner). This is a space that is used for classes and College sponsored reservable events (programs/events/gatherings). There is a large table in this space that makes for a great study location. Feel free to use this space when it is not be used for a class/event. If an event is not taking place and the room is available for you, the door will be open/unlocked and you are welcome to use this space until a scheduled event takes place. There will only be a few events scheduled each day, so you will have a lot of access to this great space.

Cot rentals suspended during Flu Season

Quad Residents:

Please note that Residential Life & Housing needs to temporarily suspend cot rentals for the time being. We will be using all available cots for students who have a roommate(s) that has the flu. Once the flu season has ended, I will send you an email to let you know that we are resuming the cot rentals. Also, please know that we will no longer be able to loan out vacuum cleaners.

Quad 4th Floor Laundry Room

Greetings Residents of the 4th Floor,

As you may know, there was recently a flood in the laundry room (near the Sulzberger elevators) on your floor. Our Facilities Staff have worked hard to rectify this problem and the laundry room is anticipated to be operational again beginning this Friday (10/24).

The problem in the laundry room was due to the pipes. The plumber has replaced the pipes and put in a system that will allow the water to flow more efficiently. Additionally, the damaged dry wall has been replaced in the laundry room and the carpets outside of it are being professionally steam cleaned.

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding. I'm glad that the problem will be fixed soon and hope that it hasn't been to inconvenient.

Cot / Vacuum / TV rentals in the Quad

The following items are available for Quad residents to check out between 8-11pm every day.

• Vacuum Cleaners
• TV and VCR/DVD cart

To check out these items, please come to the Sulzberger Front Desk and ask the Desk Attendant to contact the Resident Assistant on Duty for you. You will need to show your Barnard ID and leave a $20 deposit to borrow any of these items for a maximum 24 hour period.
